Handling and ESD Precautions

The compute modules are electronic assemblies with exposed contacts. Standard electrostatic-discharge (ESD) precautions apply.

ESD precautions​

  • Handle modules at an ESD-protected workstation where possible, or ground yourself (for example with an ESD wrist strap) before touching a module.
  • Hold modules by the body edges. Avoid touching the interface contacts and test pads.
  • Store and transport modules in antistatic packaging.

Do not format the device​

An SD-form-factor module enumerates as an unformatted block-storage device. If your operating system offers to format it, dismiss the prompt: formatting writes over the on-device data layout. See Identify your module and, if a device was formatted by accident, Troubleshooting.

Insertion and removal​

  • Insert the module fully into the slot; the C0-microSD is hot-swappable in normal operation.
  • Do not remove power or eject the module while a flash operation is in progress (on the C0-microSD, the green LED blinks rapidly during flashing).
  • After switching operation modes, the change takes effect only after a power cycle; see Modes and Custom Bitstream.

Storage and environment​

Keep modules within their published operating and storage conditions; see each module's specifications (for example, the C0-microSD operates from −40 °C – 85 °C, per its recommended operating conditions). When not in use, keep modules in antistatic packaging away from moisture and direct sunlight.
